Explore Zion Canyon by shuttle, walk to the Narrows entrance, climb toward West Rim, drive to Kolob Canyons, or spend a separate afternoon among East Zion’s slickrock and short trails.
Three parts of Zion
The shuttle corridor holds Riverside Walk, the Narrows, Zion Lodge, and West Rim trailheads. Zion–Mount Carmel Highway crosses slickrock and tunnel country to the east, while Kolob Canyons begins from its own entrance off Interstate 15.
The canyon shuttle links the Visitor Center, Zion Lodge, the Grotto, Big Bend, and Temple of Sinawava beneath Zion’s tallest walls.
Riverside Walk is paved; continuing into the Narrows means walking in the Virgin River. Flow, storms, water temperature, and footwear determine whether the river hike is suitable.
A permit is required beyond Scout Lookout on the Angels Landing route. The West Rim Trail reaches high canyon views without entering the chain section.
This east-side trail climbs above Pine Creek Canyon near the Zion–Mount Carmel Tunnel. Parking is limited, and exposed drop-offs make it unsuitable for some visitors.
Kolob Canyons has a separate five-mile scenic drive off Interstate 15 and the short Timber Creek Overlook Trail. Check current road and trail status before the drive north.
Springdale provides dinner, Narrows gear rentals, paid parking, and town-shuttle stops outside the South Entrance.

The Zion–Mount Carmel Highway, checkerboard sandstone, Canyon Overlook, and east-side outfitters sit beyond the main-canyon shuttle route. Visit them together rather than squeezing the drive between two canyon stops.
National parks pass
If Zion is on your list, compare entrance costs with the America the Beautiful annual pass. Shuttle access, permits, camping, and tours may still add cost.
